Simple Syrup

Making homemade simple syrup is very easy and it’s a great ingredient for any home mixologist to have on hand. This is a straightforward, foolproof approach to get the desired sweetness and consistency.

Ingredients:
3 cups water
3 cups sugar

Instructions:

  1. First, heat the water in a saucepan, but avoid boiling.
  2. Mix in sugar and continue to heat until all sugar is dissolved.
  3. Once dissolved, remove from heat and let cool. Store simple syrup in a sealable container.

Tips:
Any 1:1 ratio of sugar and water will do, but 3 cups is a good starting point if you’re just looking to have some on hand.

If you’re looking to make a certain amount for a recipe, use the desired amount in both water and sugar. For example, if you want 2 cups of simple syrup, use 2 cups of water and sugar. Avoiding boiling helps to keep the ratio consistent and prevents any loss of liquid.

Simple syrup is typically made with pure white cane sugar. But it can also be made with brown or dark brown sugar for a different flavor or if the recipe calls for it.
